Kazakhstan Looking for Islamic Identity

Communities of Kazakhstan, is currently being aggressively dig back long-lost Islamic. Muslim-majority countries that were previously under the rule of the Soviet Union the communist minded.

"That's why, many have come to the mosques are now beginning a lot of built in Kazakhstan, to learn to pray and understand other Islamic teachings," said Mufti Nur Astana Mosque Khalizhan in Astana, Kazakhstan, Wednesday (06/29/2011), in sidelines of the meeting the minister of interior member states Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC).

According Khalizhan, nearly 75 percent of the population of Kazakhstan are Muslim. However, still much to be practicing Islam. "During the rule under the Soviet Union, the practice of Islam is very rarely done. If anything, done in a small mosque in the village. Not surprisingly, when Kazakhstan's independence, very few are practicing Muslims," he said.

Kazakhstan will lead the 57-member OIC countries. The OIC was founded in 1969, and Kazakhstan joined the OIC in 1995.
